Arnold Classic 2016

The Arnold Classic was quite the fantastic experience with various martial arts and sports on show. From the strategical game of chess to the well-toned muscle power of power lifting, the Arnold classic was a very busy but entertaining event.

The Friday’s Kendo individual competition was quite the event that garnered quite the attention from passer-by’s to the other sportsmen and women who were displaying their craft. The mat used for the floor was quite interesting as it was quite grippy, muffled our fumikomi and proved to be quite the exhausting material with many feeling a bit fatigued after their respective shiai. But in the end the comp was still well fought by all, proved to be quite fun and still a learning experience for all.

The Saturday’s demo was well attended both in terms of the crowd and kendoka who came to participate. It all started off in the early afternoon as we all slowly came together to rehearse our demo sequence that consisted of the proper Reiho, suburi, demonstrating the multiple cuts with a designated partner and then a short shiai demonstration. Despite the close proximity of the polls on the stage and loud events happening next door, our loud kiai, enthusiasm and professionalism made the demo quite successful!

Many thanks to the SAKF for arranging our participation at the Arnold Classic and to all who volunteered their time!
