Rivonia Interdojo and midwinter kangeiko
Today was the annual midwinter kangeiko (training) which is held every year during winter where members from all dojos get together to put in a good 4 hour training session. This year, the training started at 05:00 in the morning, and the program was intense and awesome.
I was not able to attend this year's kangeiko but I was able to witness the last few minutes of it just before the start of the interdojo. It was amazing, seeing so many people all going at it at full speed, the noise level for someone who just walked into the venue was deafning, but probably seemed normal for everyone there. I know from my experience of the previous kangeiko that it really is worth the early wake and cold feet, for you don't feel like that forever. Within 30 minutes you have worked up a sweat and are probably thankful for the cool winter mornings.
The interdojo was just as amazing. Mushin had managed to regain our title as our beginner team had taken gold in the non bogu member competition. Well done to Anesu their trainer, Emile their team captain and ofcourse the brave and "Might Men" Marc, Morne and Bernard. It was a victory well deserved and well fought against some stiff competition.
The bogu competition itself was at a whole different level. All the members brought their A-game, and it was very clear that the standard of kendo has drastically increased in the country, mostly due to very hard work from each individual member but also the teaching senseis. Their guidance and increased demand of each of their members during training is really paying off.
Unfortunately Mushin's Team 1 the "Kote Knights" fell out during the knock out rounds. But we will be ready for the next inter dojo.
The next inter dojo event will be in Witbank on the 16th of July. Keep your diaries open and train hard
